comparing ePortfolio systems
I would suggest the most important feature of all is ease of use, especially by a novice. As users develop expertise, there should be more advanced features, allowing personal customisation. Paper portfolios developed originally as a record of achievement – a repository of evidence for a specific purpose such as developing a resume or as a special application. As the use of ePortfolios develops, they may well become useful tools for developing collaborative and reflective learning. This implies that interoperability between ePortfolio systems will become more important since users may well wish to use study material as part of a work based application, for example.
It may well be that different applications are more suited to different individuals. Those who are familiar with social networking sites may well favour the look and feel of Ning. On the other hand, students on a particular course may well find it easier to have to look at only one site so that MyStuff would be likely to be favoured by Open University users.
I've started a Ning at http://e891group.ning.com/ but I haven't done much to it yet
